Most apps are built looking at a panel. How long the user stayed, on which screen they gave up, which button converted more, which version retained better. The panel becomes the boss. Decisions about the app start to answer to the graph: you change what the number asks you to change.
BLA apps do not have that panel. No analytics, no behavior tracking, no funnel, no A/B test. BLA does not know how long you spent in the app, does not know on which screen you closed it, does not know which feature you used most. And that ignorance is deliberate.
At first sight it looks like a renunciation, even a naivety. How do you improve an app without measuring the app? But the question hides a trap. Measuring is not neutral. The moment you have the retention number on the screen, you start wanting to change the app for that number to go up. And what makes a number go up is not always what makes the app better.
Functions that increase engagement tend to be functions that increase dependency: a notification that pulls you back, a reward that hooks, friction placed on purpose so you stay longer. An app that chases the graph tends, over time, to turn against whoever uses it. Not out of malice. Out of gravity. The number pulls.
Without the panel, BLA decides something else. It decides whether the app is good. Not whether the app is retaining, not whether the app is converting, but whether it is good, in the editorial and almost artisanal sense of the word. The question stops being what the data asks for and goes back to being what this app should be.
It is a harder question, because it has no automatic answer. A graph answers on its own. An editorial criterion requires that someone think, decide and own it. But it is also the only question that keeps the app serving whoever uses it, and not the usage curve.
There is a cost, and BLA does not pretend there is not. Without measuring, there is no funnel to optimize, no A/B test to run, no statistical certainty of anything. BLA trades the certainty of the number for the coherence of the decision. It is a trade, and it is a trade taken on consciously.
In the end, it is the difference between an editorial product and a metric product. One answers to a mind that decided how that thing should be. The other answers to a panel. BLA chose the first, and the absence of analytics in the apps is what keeps that choice standing every day.
